The list of articles answers the question of what is here; this page answers the question of where something is said. It reads the body of every article — roughly 168,000 words over 170 articles — and returns the passages themselves, with the sentence around the word.
How it reads
Every word is folded before it is matched, so that a name may be typed in whichever spelling comes to hand: Türgeš finds Turgesh, qaġan finds khagan, Bumın finds Bumin. Several words narrow the search rather than widen it — all of them must stand in the same paragraph. A word is matched from its beginning, so Ashi finds Ashina, and articles are ranked by how many passages in them answer.
Chinese characters and Old Turkic runes are searched as they are written: 突厥 and 𐱅𐰇𐰼𐰰 both find their passages. Quotations from the sources are part of the text and are searched with it, and so are the headings, which stand above the passage they belong to.
What this search does not read: the footnotes, the data of the infobox, and the fields that carry the evidence. For a name in a source spelling, the name index lists every recorded form with its article; for a term met in passing, the glossary gives it in a line; and the list of all articles stands A to Z.
